Well Control Engineering:
Built to Prevent, Designed to Perform
The most expensive well control event is the one you were not prepared for. Cudd Well Control’s engineering team works with operators before, during, and after operations — identifying gaps, strengthening barriers, and developing the plans your team needs to stay in control.
WHAT WELL CONTROL ENGINEERING COVERS
More Than a Review — A Complete Well Control Framework
HOW WE WORK WITH YOUR TEAM
Integrated Engineering — Not an Outside Opinion

When operators bring in outside consultants, they often get a report that sits on a shelf. That is not how Cudd Well Control works.
Our engineers embed with your team. We review your procedures with the people who use them, inspect equipment with the crews who operate it, and develop response plans that reflect your actual well conditions, personnel structure, and regulatory environment — not a generic template.
The result is a well control program your organization can own, execute, and maintain — not one that only works when we are in the room.
CUDDASSURED™
CuddAssured™: Well Control Confidence You Can Document
CuddAssured™ is Cudd Well Control’s structured well control management program. It was developed to give operators — particularly those without dedicated in-house well control teams — the same depth of coverage that major E&P companies build internally.
Program & Procedure Review
We review your existing well control procedures, operating manuals, and regulatory compliance documentation. We compare your current program against industry standards (API, IADC) and identify specific gaps — not general observations.
Personnel Capacity Assessment
We assess your crew’s well control knowledge through scenario-based evaluations and tabletop exercises. This step identifies training gaps at the individual and team level before they become operational problems.
Rig & Field Equipment Inspection
Our specialists conduct hands-on inspections of critical well control equipment — BOPs, accumulators, cementing units, barrier elements, and wellhead components. Everything is evaluated against functional performance standards, not just paperwork compliance.
Gap Analysis & Corrective Action Plan
We deliver a clear, prioritized action report. You know exactly which gaps need immediate attention, which can be addressed on a planned schedule, and what the ongoing monitoring requirements are.
SPECIALIZED ENGINEERING SERVICES
When the Work Requires Deeper Engineering
Emergency Response Planning
We develop fully customized, site-specific emergency response plans for onshore, offshore, and H2S environments. Our ERPs are built around your actual organizational structure, regulatory requirements, and well inventory — not adapted from a generic template. We also conduct tabletop exercises and full-scale drills to validate the plan before it’s ever needed.
Relief Well Planning & Kill Modeling
If a well blows out, the time it takes to plan a relief well can be the difference between a controlled kill and a protracted incident. Cudd Well Control engineers develop relief well trajectory plans and dynamic kill analyses as a front-end deliverable — so the plan exists before the incident, not during it. Services include dynamic kill analysis, kick modeling, gas dispersion modeling, and radiant heat modeling.
Blowout Contingency Planning
We develop detailed blowout contingency plans customized to your asset — covering notification protocols, resource mobilization, regulatory reporting, and intervention sequencing. These plans are designed to be executable under pressure, by real people, in real time.
Shear Ram Calculations & BOP Verification
Our engineers perform shear ram calculations and verification to confirm your BOP equipment can actually shear the pipe at the pressures and conditions it may encounter. This is a common gap in operator programs and a straightforward one to close with the right engineering support.
Regulatory Compliance Verification
We review your well control procedures and equipment against current regulatory requirements — federal, state, and international — and provide a compliance gap report with actionable corrective steps.
